In Washington, DC National Museum of American History opened the exhibition "The First Ladies". Dresses, Chinese porcelain and souvenirs that are included in the exhibition, will tell about the life of wives of U.S. presidents.
The exhibition of inaugural dress Michelle Obama at the center includes 26 items and 160 other wardrobe items - from the first exhibits the White House collection, purchased by Martha Washington to Laura Bush china crockery.
The exhibition examines the role of first ladies in American history, their influence on public opinion, and tries to guess what a woman could become the first U.S. president. The exposition is divided into sections devoted to the fashion preferences of first ladies, their role as housewives of the country and change their image over time.
This is the tenth exhibition on first ladies, which opens at the museum over the past 100 years. First was held in 1914 and was intended to prove that women have a rightful place in American history, reports USA Today.
Starting from Helen Taft, every first lady donated her inaugural gown to the museum. The last exhibit of the collection was a dress of Michelle Obama, created by designer Jason Wu.
